Bhaal crafted a child from a drop of His very own gore, destined to leave a path of blood and pain from the very moment of his creation. Then He gifted this child with a soul to match his own, a twin meant for nothing more than a rather poetic sacrifice for the Lord of Murder. This is Iago Darlington's only purpose. It is the reason they exist. They still have not died. They are supposed to be dead. Why the hells aren't they dead yet ohhhh my Gods can someone just get an ax already and-

ABOUT

Iago is the twin sibling of Puck, Bhaal's rightful chosen. As children, they lived in a loving home. When that home was broken, their brother slaughtering their parents (and almost Iago, as well), they scraped by on the streets and, later, as an informant for the Guild, all while trying to curb their brother's growing dark urges.Try as they might to be anything else, their destiny was always to become the most crucial and damning bit of fodder for the clearly favored spawn. Unfortunately for the Lord of Murder, Iago loves and is loved more than they could ever express, more than Bhaal could've ever expected. Forever by their brother's side, they would follow him to the ends of the earth (or, rather, to the cult they have no place in). An utter failure of a slaughterlamb, Iago routinely coaxes him down from the darkness that consume him and talks their way off of the sacrificial altar time and time and time again. With their only purpose so constantly thwarted by both of the siblings' efforts, Iago keeps their status just barely afloat by making themselves useful; With such a popular fervor for the blood-and-guts side of being a Bhaalist, it's not as if anyone else wanted to jump at managing the cult finances, boarding, maintenance, disposal, brokering, paperwork, paperwork, so much paperwork- It's an unfavorable job for the bloodthirsty, and a perfect bit of security for the unwelcome and embarrassingly squeamish Iago. Those years were spent watching miserably as Puck lost his mind. Their inability to save him from his fate haunts them for the rest of their life (however long that may be, with the way things are going...)When Puck goes missing, their lack of loyalty to the Bhaal Temple rears it's head and they finally escape, doing everything in their power to never, ever have to go back there again. It could be a second chance for their own life, as well as the life of their brother, and they are desperate to take advantage of that.

VERSES

Main Verse: With their brother gone and presumed to have left them, Iago finally runs away from the Bhaal Temple. They look for Puck, unaware that he would have no memories of his twin and a tadpole in his brain. In a desperate attempt to help their brother make the most of this second chance at life (and to save their own ass), Iago plans to keep his (their) dark history from him for as long as they can. They tag along with the BG3 party from there, running as far as they can from their own past. Away from the Bhaal Temple, Iago starts to learn how to live again and realizes they had not yet lost all of their passion and curiosity for the world.
Tadpoled Verse: All the same origin, but without any memory of such. Their own Dark Urges manifest in a more extreme manner than before due to their usual practiced, perfectly scheduled techniques to keep the urges at bay going out the window. A hard factory reset on the Iago makes them desperate for answers about their past, stopping at nothing to understand who they were and the reason for the holes in their heart.
Post-BG3: After the events of the game, Iago moves to Baldur's Gate to give this whole 'having a life of their own' thing a shot. Eventually this turns into a (somewhat haunted) antiques shop where people often stop by to discard their pesky cursed items- much to Iago's delight. It's an odd but happy little life and they gleefully embrace the 'weird witch who lives in the haunted doll shop' persona the neighborhood kids tell stories about.
Dragon Age verse: Iago shares their body with a spirit of Chaos, a deal made in desperation when they were a child. They kept this a secret until the circle they had been kept in attempted to make them Tranquil. They attacked the circle and escaped, marking themselves as a highly sought after apostate. Now, they remain on the run and search for their brother, one of the missing Grey Wardens. More about the DA verse here.

PERSONALITY

Iago carries with them the air of someone who does not care or notice if you are even breathing. Simultaneously, they are incredibly nosey and vigilantly watching your every move. Paranoid as can be, and a chronic overthinker, they treat every interaction like a game of 5D chess. They are a strategist who excels in making themselves just barely indispensable enough to scrape by. They don't like the spotlight and consider their rightful place to be somewhere faded into the background, unnoticed and observant. The culprit that most often gives away this cool demeanor is their wild magic, always irritably tattling on their unspoken, deep-seated passion by catching something on fire or perhaps turning them into a sheep in moments overwhelmed by emotion. Those who look close enough will find there is a lifetime of repressed wonder for the world around them and a very rambly, silly spirit under their well-practiced boredom. Also, they are, to their dismay, very pathetic. Cringefail, if you will.Fear, Passion, and Wonder. This is what makes up Iago Darlington.

APPEARANCE

HAIR: Long, wavy, white hair down to their lower back. Very rarely seen in any way other than tucked into a braid, the state of which often directly correlates to their mental stability at that given moment.
EYES: Migrane-inducing. Black sclera with fuschia pupils. (Human was a very loose, process-of-elimination guess from the kind souls who took them in as a child.)
HEIGHT: 5'2
BUILD: Twinkish.
DOMINANT HAND: Left
SCARS: Many. Some notable ones being the pale rings on their left pointer and middle fingers that were once cut off (courtesy of Orin), a stab wound that missed their heart by mere inches (courtesy of Puck), and a small gash just barely hidden by their hairline (courtesy of staircase).
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Deep purple tendril-like markings from their left eye that slither across their face and down their body, shifting from day to day. Oddly sharp canines. The baffling ability to have a very forgettable face despite all of this- people often find themselves with a headache instead of recollection when thinking of Iago.
